Dr. Robert Lefkowitz, Nobel Laureate for Chemistry:

We have just had a Presidential election in the United States. One of the fault lines in the campaign was the role that science plays in shaping public policy decisions. A clear anti-science bias was apparent in many who sought the presidential nomination of one of our major political parties. This was manifest as a refusal to accept for example, the theory of evolution, the existence of global warming, much less of the role of humans in this process, the value of vaccines or of embryonic stem cell research. Each of us Laureates aspires in our own small way to do what we can to counter these pernicious anti-scientific trends.

Oh, Science!
My only true north!
So pure. So free from petty human constraint!
Lift me from this morass of the ignorant and unwashed!

Particularly that interesting new laureate, The EU.

Actually, I was being sarcastic, but it may be true. I think they do generally believe in evolution over there.

Hey, here's a new project for the Unreached People's Project: Forget the Bible tracts for Amazonian tribes. Translate creationism into Norwegian! Surely when they see the logic, there will be a whole new set of Nobels ... um, er ...

Outstanding; distantly related factoid overheard today, regarding political perspectives on handouts: it is amazing how the same folks that say we shouldn't support poor kids with welfare in inner-cities are the same ones in favor of gazillions for farm and cow pie subsidies...(no offense to farmers and their kin; Southwest cow pie generators are on their own).
